Model, performer and sex educator GoAskAlex recently spoke as a guest lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) for students of professor Constance Penley’s Film & Media Studies class, centering around the subject of sex work and entertainers with disabilities.

Alex launched her adult modeling and live cam career in 2014, and found herself at a crossroads in 2019 when her ulcerative colitis become so unbearable that she required an ostomy, which entails her entire colon being removed, with her small intestine re-routed through her abdomen.

Alex explained that in the three years since her total abdominal colectomy surgery, she has had to make critical adjustments in order to better accommodate her daily life; her job as an adult performer, however, has blossomed, and she currently enjoys a successful and fulfilling career as a recognized and respected content creator.

Said Alex, “It was an absolute pleasure speaking to the students at UCSB about my disability and my career in sex work. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in their education and share my perspective as an adult performer. Conversations like these are paramount to destigmatizing disabilities and the sex work industry as a whole.”

GoAskAlex is an award-winning 18+ performer, feminist, and advocate for the representation of disabled bodies in pornography. She has spent the past six years as a webcam model and adult content creator. After becoming an ostomate in 2019, she focused her career on advocating for underrepresented bodies in adult media. She has since then been featured in XBIZ magazine (including a cover photo as their first ever model with an ostomy) and was featured in Hustler E-Magazine for her “Disabled Sex Workers” Calendar. Most recently, she won the 2020 XBIZ Awards for ‘Best Inked Model”.
